Mid-March

Hello Friends of the Farm!

It was great being able to step away from the world of skiing for one day! With no coaching or Nordic related duties, many items on the farm agenda have been officially crossed off!

Given the current weather forecast, we are are still a ways away from the outdoor growing season! Nevertheless, the first batch of onions have been growing for a little over a month in the basement, and more have been planted! A total of four sets of varying varieties have been planted since February 9th.  It is safe to say, barring catastrophe, there should not be a shortage of onions this season...

Earlier this spring we purchased a new stainless steel 2' X 6' Leader Evaporator.  The old 2' X 4' evaporator was on it's last legs, showing sings of rust and wear. It had been heavily used since Dad made the purchase sometime in the 1970s (I'm actually guessing that, it has been too long for him to remember...).  The last several seasons we've had about 45 taps.  This season we are stepping up our game to 80 - 90 taps!  Today Dad and I put out 60...

Here are some pictures from the day...
